La chapelle qui se tenait ici depuis 1232 est devenue en 1264 l'église paroissiale de Borsbeek. Grâce à William Nose. Après un pèlerinage à Santiago de Compostela, il aurait fait construire une chapelle sur les terres de sa famille à Borsbeek en l'honneur de Saint-Jacques. Les pèlerins néerlandais qui marchent vers le lieu de pèlerinage espagnol via la Via Brabantica font toujours une halte ici.
L'église a survécu à des incendies, des guerres et des pillages : le clocher a même été dynamité deux fois. Ce n'est qu'au cours des années 90 qu'un nouveau clocher a été installé. Détail remarquable : c'est aussi un point géodésique officiel, un point de référence pour mesurer les hauteurs.
