Depuis 1977, Oombergen est une section de la ville belge de Zottegem dans le Denderstreek située en Région flamande dans la province de Flandre-Orientale. Lors de la fusion, une partie de l'ancienne commune d'Oombergen a été rattachée à Hautem-Saint-Liévin.
L’église dont certains éléments sont de type roman date du XIVe siècle. Un incendie a eu lieu en 1919 et l’église a été rénovée avec les conseils de l’architecte gantois Valentin Vaerwyck.
