À Essen, les célèbres frères Raf et Mich Walschaerts ont grandi. Ils sont nés en tant que fils d'un exploitant de dancing à Essen. Raf a étudié la psychologie et Mich a suivi une formation d'acteur à Anvers. En 1987, les frères essenois ont donné leur première performance sous le nom de "Kommil Foo". En 2018, ils ont atteint la première place dans le classement des Pays-Bas et de Belgique avec la chanson émotive "Ruimtevaarder".
