Le Holsteen est un ensemble d'environ huit gigantesques pierres de grès. D'une part, les pierres elles-mêmes constituent un phénomène géologique unique. D'autre part, l'une des pierres présente des marques de polissage préhistoriques. Cependant, cette pierre se trouve plus en arrière, entourée d'une clôture en bois. Des recherches archéologiques ont montré que des chasseurs préhistoriques, dès le Mésolithique (environ 6 000 avant J.-C.) jusqu'à l'Âge du Bronze (environ 700 avant J.-C.), venaient polir leurs outils en pierre sur cette pierre. Le Holsteen est la seule pierre à polir fixe en Flandre.
