La principale caractéristique du barrage de Gileppe est un lion de 13,5 mètres de haut et 180 tonnes en grès. Saviez-vous que l’orientation du lion n’est pas une simple coïncidence. Le lion se tient au sommet du mur du barrage et a été placé de telle sorte qu’il regarde fièrement vers la frontière avec ce qui était alors la Prusse, qui n’était qu’à 5 kilomètres. Le barrage a été inauguré par le roi Léopold II le 28 juillet 1878. Et à cette époque, la Prusse était un pays important à attendre avec impatience !
