Le 'Casualty Clearing Station' (CCS) ou hôpital d'évacuation appelé Dozinghem se trouve à un carrefour de la route de transport et de la voie ferrée. C'est la fin de ce que l'on appelle la zone de collecte et le début de la véritable zone d'évacuation hors de danger. Elle jouxte l'abbaye de Saint-Sixte où de nombreuses troupes ont trouvé refuge. C'était l'un des trois grands hôpitaux d'évacuation de la région.
Le cimetière a été utilisé par les Casual Clearing Stations pendant 9 mois, jusqu'au printemps 1918 (la Offensive de Printemps allemande).
