Lars Boom, cependant, veut toujours dépasser Boonen, et opte pour la droite, le côté du caniveau. Il n’y a pas de place là-bas, Boonen pose son épaule et le Néerlandais tombe de son vélo. Boom admet par la suite : « C’était une de mes actions stupides ».
