Quaregnon est une commune francophone de Belgique située en Région wallonne dans la province de Hainaut.Alexandre-Guillaume Chotin mentionne une première appellation « in villa Quaterlesia » retrouvée dans un diplôme de l'an 965. Il cite également les formes Quaternio , Quaregio , Quareum , Quaregnon , Quarinon et Quargnon . Chotin extrait de ces formes la racine quater, qu'il interprète comme une « mauvaise lecture ou écriture » du latin quarrera signifiant carrière et fait ainsi de Quaregnon « le lieu de la pierraie ».
