Le quai de Saint-Amand a joué un rôle de point d'accostage jusqu'aux années 70. Avec l'élévation des levées, cette activité a disparu. La tombe de l'écrivain francophone Émile Verhaeren (1855-1916) et de sa femme Marthe Massin dépassait encore le quai dans les années 50, mais elle a dû être adaptée aux niveaux d'eau croissants. Depuis le quai, vous avez une magnifique vue sur l'Escaut en direction de Mariekerke, avec en face le Saint-Amandsschoor. Une visite de la Dam, du musée des moulins et du musée provinciale Verhaeren vaut certainement le détour.
