Le gouverneur de la province est Denis Mathen . Il est le vingtième gouverneur et le premier désigné par le Gouvernement wallon. Son prédécesseur est Amand Dalem.
L'origine de la province de Namur remonte à 1795, lors de la création du département de Sambre-et-Meuse, à la suite de la réunion des Pays-Bas autrichiens et de la Principauté de Liège à la France révolutionnaire.
