Vers 1300, une tour résidentielle en briques renforcées est construite à Oostkerke. À la fin du 14ème siècle, il y avait un “Nederhof” et un “Opperhof”, tous deux entourés de fossés. Le baron van der Elst fait rénover un château en ruine en 1938. Les remparts ont été à nouveau creusés, le pont d'entrée en pierre a été restauré et la transformation de l'aile ouest a été réalisée par un édifice élégant dans le style Renaissance. De plus, les anciennes fondations de la muraille et des donjons ont été rehaussées et servent de décoration et de chemin dans le jardin, aménagé par la paysagiste néerlandaise Mien Ruys.
