Ca. 1300 blev der i Oostkerke opført et forstærket murstensboligtårn. Ved slutningen af det 14. århundrede var der en “Nederhof” og en “Opperhof”, begge omringet af voldgrave. Baron van der Elst lod i 1938 en forfalden borg ombygge. Volde blev gravet op igen, den stenede adgangsbro blev restaureret, og ombygningen af den vestlige fløj blev udført i en smuk renæssancestil. Desuden blev de tidligere fundamenter af ringmuren og donjonerne hævet og fungerer som pynt og gangsti i haven, anlagt af den hollandske landskabsarkitekt Mien Ruys.
