Intorno al 1300 viene costruita a Oostkerke una torre di abitazione in mattoni rinforzata. Alla fine del XIV secolo c'era un "Nederhof" e un "Opperhof", entrambi circondati da fossati. Nel 1938 il barone van der Elst fa ristrutturare un castello in rovina. Le mura vengono nuovamente scavate, il ponte d'accesso in pietra ripristinato e l'ala occidentale ristrutturata in un elegante edificio in stile rinascimentale. Inoltre, le antiche fondamenta della mura circolari e dei donjon sono state elevate e servono come decorazione e sentiero nel giardino, progettato dalla paesaggista olandese Mien Ruys.
