Capitale du Condroz, elle a une population de 19 007 habitants au 01/01/2020 , 9 458 hommes et 9 549 femmes. Sa superficie étant de 99,80 km2, sa densité de population est de 163,89 habitants/km2.Ciney est parfois qualifiée de capitale du Condroz, au cœur duquel elle se trouve, bien que cette dénomination soit purement symbolique et n'ait aucun caractère officiel. Elle s'articule en longueur autour d'une artère commerçante longue de près de deux kilomètres. Les nombreux quartiers répartis de part et d'autre sont essentiellement à caractère résidentiel.
