Jadis, surplombant la Sambre, se dressait l'ancien château féodal de La Buissière. Il disparut à la révolution française, tandis qu'à ses pieds, des familles de carriers taillaient le marbre à flanc de coteau, au hasard des concessions. En 1868 fut fondée la scierie de marbre Sainte-Anne, aujourd'hui aménagée en magnifique site de promenade.
