La vieille fabrique de sirop à la vapeur est l'un des derniers vestiges du traitement industriel des fruits en sirop. Au début du siècle dernier, Borgloon était le berceau de la fabrication de sirop.
La fabrique de sirop à la vapeur a été fondée en 1878. En 1988, l'activité a été arrêtée. En 2005, le conseil municipal de Borgloon a acheté l'usine. En 2007, le bâtiment a remporté la première édition du Monumentenstrijd sur la chaîne de télévision flamande Canvas. Aujourd'hui, le sirop est à nouveau fabriqué de manière artisanale.
