Caché dans la zone naturelle de De Maat se trouvait autrefois le château de Van Eetvelde. Edmond Van Eetvelde était au tournant du XIXe siècle secrétaire d'État du Congo. En 1910, il y fit construire un château. “En tant que bras droit du roi Léopold II, il a la vie de millions de personnes sur la conscience”, dit Dré. “Ce n'est rien dont on puisse être fier.” Le château a été détruit par les Allemands pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale et ensuite démoli. “L'histoire n'est pas belle, mais le château lui-même devait être magnifique,” montre Dré sur une ancienne image. “Il avait même une tour d'eau dans laquelle l'eau de pluie était conservée pour être réutilisée dans la salle de bain.”
Aujourd'hui, il ne reste que les anciens bâtiments de service du château. Ceux-ci ont été transformés en centre de jeunesse De Maat.
