Le Beffroi de Tournai est le plus ancien de Belgique (XIIe siècle). Inscrit sur la liste du patrimoine mondiale de l’UNESCO, il domine la Grand-Place du haut de ses 72 m. La montée de ses 257 marches vous fera découvrir les salles occupées par le spectacle multimédia, les expositions didactiques, le cachot, la chambre du carillonneur et le carillon qui tinte à travers la ville tous les dimanches en période estivale (vers 15h30). Erigé en 1192, le beffroi de Tournai symbolise les libertés communales. Sa cloche (« la Bancloque ») avertissait la population des procès et exécutions, invasions, incendies,... Le beffroi servit de tour de guet, prison, clocher et hôtel de ville. Le sommet offre le plus beau panorama de Tournai et de ses alentours.
