Une grande partie du Fort 7 est protégée en tant que zone naturelle, mais pas la zone en dehors du fossé le long de la Moerelei. Ce fort a des remparts remarquablement plus hauts que les autres exemples de la ceinture de forts. Depuis l'enveloppe extérieure, cela se voit bien au-dessus du fossé.
