Parc d'environ 6,2 hectares, situé juste à l'extérieur des remparts médiévaux, dont les quatre portes ont été démolies au XVIIIe siècle, les fortifications ont subsisté jusqu'en 1890. À l'origine, les terrains du parc faisaient partie des vastes domaines de la famille d'Aubremé, qui a vendu sa propriété pour la réalisation d'une nouvelle zone résidentielle à proximité de la gare, voir rue d'Aubremé.
