Au niveau du monument de l'invasion, un avion allemand s'est écrasé quatre mois avant l'invasion du 10 mai 1940. Les pilotes ont survécu, mais ils n'ont pas pu empêcher que leurs documents tombent entre les mains de l'armée belge. Ils contenaient un scénario détaillé pour l'invasion allemande, mais le gouvernement belge ne comprit pas la gravité de la situation.
