Au milieu des trois pistes de l'aéroport de Bruxelles, de nombreux contrôleurs aériens contrôlent ici tous les mouvements d'avions, des atterrissages, des roulages au décollage.
À quelques mètres au sud se trouvait autrefois la voie romaine de, probablement Batavia (Leiden), passant par Hoogstraten et Elewijt, à travers ces champs en direction de Wavre, Namur vers Trêves.
Plus tard (14e-15e siècle), cela faisait partie de la connexion nord-sud bourguignonne de Malines à Dijon et en Zélande.
