En 1912, Odiel Defraeye a été le premier Belge à remporter le Tour de France. Cela lui vaut, 100 ans plus tard, une statue à Rumbeke, son village natal. C’est du temps de sa carrière cycliste encore qu’il a ouvert le Café des sports. Par la suite, il a également exploité des cafés à la Côte : l’Hôtel Belle-Vue à Lombardsijde et le Neptune à La Panne.
