La paroisse de Steenhuffel a pour patronne Sainte-Geneviève de Paris. L'église porte donc son nom. Cette église se caractérise par ses 2 vitraux mondialement célèbres qui sont considérés comme les plus anciens d'Europe. Il s'agit d'un patrimoine mondial.
Le ‘putteke’ qui se trouve à l'entrée de l'église n'est pas une source mais un puits creusé. Ce ‘putteke’ rappelle la source de Nanterre en l'honneur de Sainte-Geneviève. Chaque année, une belle réplique du ‘putteke’ participe à la procession de Geneviève qui a traditionnellement lieu à la Pentecôte.
