Les carrières de Scoufflény situées à Écaussinnes-Lalaing apportaient du travail pour 10.000 personnes dans les années 60. Fermée depuis 1984, elle exploitait aussi le petit granit. Puis devenu un site de plongée mais désormais fermé à cause d’accidents mortels en 1995. Maintenant elle présente un grand intérêt biologique, en son sein vivent de nombreuses espèces d’oiseaux, d’amphibiens, et divers animaux.
