Lorsque la construction du château fut achevée fin 1877 , la famille Maere-Limnander s'y installa. L'architecte paysagiste Louis Fuchs fut chargé de la conception idyllique du jardin .
August de Maere fit aménager un parc paysager autour du palais. Dans le parc, Fuchs a créé une illusion de paysage avec des pièces d' eau , des reliefs artificiels , des pelouses ouvertes et des groupes d' arbres plantés avec beaucoup d'effet. La façade arrière du château se reflète dans un bassin dont la branche se prolonge dans la forêt. Un bain public a été construit sur le rivage, un bâtiment néoclassique surplombant le château et la végétation environnante.
