Il fut un temps où la Belgique recherchait des travailleurs du monde entier pour l'extraction du charbon et l'industrie lourde. La direction des usines Boël a donc construit en 1946 un camp de baraques pour les travailleurs invités italiens. Maintenant, il y a un Centre d'Interprétation de l'Immigration, un musée où l'on peut visiter gratuitement un certain nombre de ces baraques. Il y a un café-restaurant avec une grande terrasse. On peut y louer un petit bateau électrique.
