Le royaume des Odryses est issu de l'union de plusieurs tribus thraces entre le Ve et le IIIe siècle av. J.-C. Il s'étendait sur le sud et l'est de l'actuelle Bulgarie, jusque sur les côtes de l'actuelle Roumanie, sur le nord-est de la Grèce et la partie européenne de l'actuelle Turquie. Le roi Seuthès III en établit la capitale à Seuthopolis
