Davos est célèbre pour avoir accueilli les réunions annuelles du Forum économique mondial (WEF), une réunion annuelle des élites politiques et commerciales mondiales. Il est également connu comme une zone de sports d’hiver. À partir du milieu du 18ème siècle, Davos est devenue une destination populaire pour les riches et les malades parce que le microclimat dans la haute vallée était jugé excellent par les médecins et recommandé pour les patients atteints de maladies pulmonaires. Par exemple, Robert Louis Stevenson, qui souffrait de tuberculose, a hiverné à Davos en 1880. Arthur Conan Doyle a écrit un article sur le ski à Davos en 1899. Davos est également le cadre du roman de Thomas Mann Der Zauberberg (La montagne magique), qui se déroule dans un sanatorium.
