Le 24 novembre 2001 à 21 h 7 , un Avro 146-RJ 100 assurant le vol Crossair 3597 reliant Berlin, en Allemagne, à Zurich, en Suisse, s'écrase sur une montagne près du village de Bassersdorf lors de son approche sur l'aéroport de Zurich.Vingt-quatre personnes sur les trente-trois présentes à bord périssent ; les neuf survivants en ressortent blessés. Parmi les passagers se trouvaient les membres du groupe de musique allemand Passion Fruit et la chanteuse Melanie Thornton du groupe d'Eurodance La Bouche. La future conseillère nationale Jacqueline Badran, également présente à bord, a, elle, survécu.
