Der Crossair-Flug 3597 war ein planmässiger Passagierflug von Berlin-Tegel nach Zürich. Das eingesetzte Flugzeug des Typs Avro RJ100 mit dem Luftfahrzeugkennzeichen HB-IXM stürzte am 24. November 2001 etwa fünf Kilometer vor dem Erreichen der Landebahn 28 nach dem Berühren von Bäumen in der Nähe von Bassersdorf, Kanton Zürich, ab. Als Hauptursache des Unfalls gilt laut dem schweizerischen Büro für Flugunfalluntersuchungen das Unterschreiten der Mindestsinkflughöhe. Von den 33 Insassen starben 24, darunter der Kapitän, der Kopilot, die Sängerin Melanie Thornton und zwei der drei Sängerinnen der Popgruppe Passion Fruit.
