Il relie Mühlrüti dans la municipalité de Mosnang et Steg dans la municipalité de Fischenthal dans la vallée de la Töss.
Le col se situe entre le Toggenburg à Saint-Gall et la vallée de la rivière Töss à Zurich. La route du col a une pente maximale de 10%. Au sommet se trouve un restaurant populaire. Depuis le col, il y a des sentiers de randonnée pour gravir les sommets environnants, y compris le Hörnli et le Schnebelhorn.
