Asendorf est une commune rurale dans la communauté de communes de Bruchhausen-Vilsen dans le district de Diepholz en Basse-Saxe.
Le lieu a été nommé Asenthorpe en 1252 et Asendorpe en 1330. Aso, en tant que nom propre, pourrait remonter à l'allemand ancien Ans et ainsi au terme des Ases, les dieux païens des Germains. Anso, Aso, Aaso, Asso, Oso, Osso sont attestés dans des sources écrites depuis le 8e siècle. Le nom pourrait également être d'origine lombarde, car il y aurait eu chez les Lombards un nom personnel Aso ou Anso.
