Wolmirstedt est située sur l'Ohre, à 14 kilomètres au nord de Magdebourg. Le territoire de la ville est traversé au sud par le canal du Mittelland, à l'est il s'étend jusqu'à l'Elbe.
Les précipitations annuelles s'élèvent à 472 mm, ce qui est extrêmement bas, seulement un pour cent des stations de mesure du Service météorologique allemand enregistrent des valeurs plus faibles. Le mois le plus sec est février, la plupart des précipitations tombent en juin. En juin, il tombe 1,8 fois plus de précipitations qu'en février.
