Penig est une ville de Saxe , située dans l'arrondissement de Saxe centrale, dans le district de Chemnitz.
Penig est situé sur la rivière Zwickauer Mulde entre Glauchau et Rochlitz. La ville est traversée par la route régionale S57 et par le chemin de fer Glauchau - Großbothen . Les communes voisins sont Geithain, Wechselburg, Lunzenau, Mühlau, Burgstädt, Limbach-Oberfrohna, Waldenburg, Nobitz, Langenleuba-Niederhain et Frohburg.
