Bedingrade est un quartier situé à l'ouest de la ville d'Essen. Il borde au nord les quartiers de Frintrop, Dellwig et Gerschede, à l'est Borbeck-Mitte comme prochain centre intermédiaire, au sud Schönebeck et à l'ouest les villes voisines d'Oberhausen et de Mülheim an der Ruhr.
Le caractère rural du quartier avec de nombreuses espaces verts, champs et jardins de bricolage s'est largement préservé jusqu'à aujourd'hui. Sinon, la construction résidentielle domine, composée de maisons individuelles et collectives, construites par des promoteurs privés et publics. La fin des années 1950 et les années 1960 ont été marquées par une intensification de la construction de logements d'entreprise et de logements sociaux en général.
