Egestorf est situé à l'est de la réserve naturelle de la Lüneburger Heide. La commune fait partie de la communauté Samtgemeinde de Hanstedt et se trouve au sud de la métropole de Hambourg.
Elle est traversée par la Schmale Aue ainsi que par quelques-uns de ses affluents. La Schmale Aue a été transformée en un étang à Sudermühlen. Dans le quartier d'Evendorf se trouve la source de Schwinde.
La commune d'Egestorf comprend les quartiers d'Egestorf, Döhle, Evendorf, Sahrendorf et Schätzendorf, la colonie forestière d'Egestorf ainsi que les fermes de Sudermühlen, Wiedsal, Brocken et Tiesenberg.
