Egestorf si trova sul lato est dell'area protetta della Lüneburger Heide. Il comune fa parte della Samtgemeinde Hanstedt e si trova a sud della regione metropolitana di Amburgo.
È attraversato dalla Schmalen Aue e alcuni dei suoi affluenti. La Schmale Aue è stata accumulata a un laghetto di mulino a Sudermühlen. Nel quartiere di Evendorf si trova la sorgente di Schwinde.
Al comune di Egestorf appartengono i quartieri di Egestorf, Döhle, Evendorf, Sahrendorf e Schätzendorf, il villaggio forestale di Egestorf e le fattorie di Sudermühlen, Wiedsal, Brocken e Tiesenberg.
