Eisenach est une ville allemande, située à l'ouest du land de Thuringe et au centre du pays, dans la vallée de l'Hörsel. La ville est dominée par le château de Wartbourg qui fut le théâtre de célèbres joutes de troubadours au XIIIe siècle et qui inspirèrent à Richard Wagner le thème de son opéra Tannhäuser. De plus, la ville est connue comme étant le lieu où Martin Luther a traduit la Bible en allemand, au XVIe siècle.
Elle est également connue pour être la ville natale de Jean-Sébastien Bach en 1685, où il vécut jusqu'au décès de sa mère, en 1695.
