La double tombe d'Oberkassel a été découverte en 1914 par des travailleurs de la carrière dans le quartier actuel d'Oberkassel à Bonn. Sous de plats blocs de basalt et enveloppés d'une mince couche d'argile teintée de rouge, se trouvaient les squelettes d'un homme d'environ 50 ans, d'une femme âgée de 20 à 25 ans, les restes d'un chien, d'autres restes animaux et des os d'animaux travaillés.
