La Halle des Hêtres près de Bad Kösen était une clairière dans la forêt haute de hêtres à droite du chemin menant de Bad Kösen à la Rudelsburg, qui a acquis une importance particulière pour la station thermale en plein essor sur la Saale dans le cadre du mouvement de plein air de la seconde moitié du 19e siècle.
Le dictionnaire allemand des frères Grimm fait référence à la première attestation écrite du terme Halle des Hêtres en mentionnant le philosophe et écrivain Friedrich Heinrich Jacobi et la deuxième partie de son Woldemar. Woldemar y écrit dans l'une de ses lettres romantiques de la campagne à Biederthal :
