Lors de la bataille de Wiesloch le 16 août 1632, les Suédois sous Gustaf Graf Horn ont défait les Impériaux sous Ernesto Montecuccoli.
Jusqu'au 26 avril 1622, un jour avant la bataille de Mingolsheim, Tilly rassembla ses troupes à Wiesloch et attaqua Mingolsheim le 27 avril 1622 en venant du nord. Après avoir été battu lors de cette bataille au Ohrenberg par Mansfeld et que plus de 2 000 hommes de son côté soient tombés, il s'enfuit à travers Östringen, Zeutern, Odenheim par la vallée de Katzbach vers Wimpfen. Là, il remporta neuf jours plus tard la bataille de Wimpfen. Tilly poursuivit vers la bataille de Höchst, puis reprit Heidelberg, Mannheim et Frankenthal.
