L'écluse d'Ochtum à Lemwerder se trouve à l'embouchure de l'Ochtum dans la Weser. Elle sert à la protection contre les inondations de la plaine située derrière l'écluse et donc en particulier à la protection de certaines parties de Brême, où il y a eu les seules victimes mortelles en février 1962 lors de la tempête, ainsi que de Delmenhorst et Stuhr. L'écluse a été construite en vertu d'un traité entre les États fédéraux de Basse-Saxe et de Brême.
