La réserve naturelle de la vallée de la Ruhr à Bestwig, d'une superficie de 83,92 ha, est située sur le territoire de la commune de Bestwig. La zone a été désignée en 2008 en tant que réserve naturelle par le Haut-Sauerland dans le cadre du plan paysager de Bestwig. La réserve naturelle est également partiellement désignée comme site FFH de la Ruhr. Le site FFH de la Ruhr comprend des zones de la Ruhr et des prairies de la source de la Ruhr jusqu'à Fröndenberg dans le district d'Unna.
