Le monastère, devenu plus tard le chapitre de Metelen dans la commune de Metelen, a été fondé en 889. Au départ, c'était un couvent de femmes direct de l'Empire, à partir du 13ème siècle, il est devenu un chapitre de chanoines et les habitantes vivaient en partie selon la règle des augustines. À la fin du 15ème siècle, il a été transformé en un chapitre de dames laïques. En 1803 et 1810, il a été sécularisé.
