Le château de Sommerswalde se trouve non loin du village de Schwante, dans la commune d'Oberkrämer en Allemagne de l'est.
C'est entre 1888 et 1891 que le château est construit par les architectes berlinois Hans Abesser et Klaus Kröger, pour le lieutenant Friedrich August Richard Sommer, héritier du conseiller municipal berlinois, Carl August Heinrich Sommer , qui avait une fortune immobilière considérable à Berlin, dans le quartier de la porte de Brandebourg. La rue dans laquelle est construite le Reichstag s'appelait Sommerstraße et les bâtiments au sud de la porte s'appellent encore Haus Sommer.
