Rotberg fait partie de l’arrondissement de Waltersdorf de la commune de Schönefeld dans l’arrondissement de Dahme-Spreewald. L’ancienne commune indépendante est située au sud de Berlin, non loin de l’aéroport de Berlin-Schönefeld, dans le Land de Brandebourg.
En 1316, le village de Rotberg, fondé par des colons allemands, est mentionné pour la première fois dans un document sous le nom de Rodeses. Vraisemblablement, en raison de la forme slave de base du nom, il y avait déjà une colonie wende auparavant. Le nom du lieu peut être dérivé du mot allemand pour défrichage ainsi que du slave rot, qui signifie terrain humide.
