La société a été fondée en août 1997 par Martina Klink, diplômée en administration des affaires, et Carsten Klink, un skipper. Les premières unités à être achetées étaient deux bateaux-pousseurs de classe Finow et mis en service sous les noms de Mister Ed et Miss Ed. La flotte s’est ensuite continuellement agrandie et les navires ont reçu des noms commençant par les premières lettres Ed.
En 1999, Ed Line Service Center GmbH a été fondée sur les sites de Yachtbau Berlin GmbH, qui effectue tous les travaux de réparation sur les navires Ed Line et propose un service de réparation dans toute l’Europe. Un an plus tard, le siège de l’entreprise a été transféré de la Gubener Straße à la Wendenschloßstraße.
