Kleinschmalkalden est depuis le 1er février 2006 un quartier de Floh-Seligenthal dans le district thuringeois de Schmalkalden-Meiningen avec environ 1400 habitants. De 1945 à 1990, le lieu portait le nom de Pappenheim en mémoire au politicien Ludwig Pappenheim, assassiné par les national-socialistes.
Kleinschmalkalden est situé dans la vallée de la Schmalkalde, au nord de la ville de Schmalkalden, sur le versant sud-ouest de la forêt thuringe. C'est ici que l'on produit des cloches, des articles en fer forgé et des outils. En RDA, le lieu était une station thermale reconnue. La gare de Spitzkehren de Kleinschmalkalden se trouvait sur la ligne de chemin de fer Schmalkalden–Brotterode.
