Jusqu’à sa dissolution en 1972, l’arrondissement d’Illertissen était un district de l’arrondissement administratif bavarois de Souabe. Le siège administratif de l’arrondissement était Illertissen, qui a été élevé au statut de ville en 1954. Au moment de sa dissolution, le district comprenait 42 municipalités. Le quartier d’Illertissen n’avait pas d’armoiries.
L’arrondissement d’Illertissen était situé à l’ouest de l’arrondissement administratif bavarois de Souabe, à la frontière avec le Bade-Wurtemberg, à peu près à mi-chemin entre Ulm / Neu-Ulm et Memmingen.
